Capitol Hill is one of Seattle’s oldest, most vivacious neighborhoods known for the long established LGBTQ+ community and wide selection of culinary and retail choices. Nestled between downtown and Lake Washington, Capitol Hill is the perfect blend of convenience without straying too far from nature. The neighborhoods walk score and transit accessibility make it amongst one of the highest (92 and 72 respectively).
If we were to spend a day enjoying all that Capitol Hill has to offer, we might start by grabbing coffee and breakfast at one of our favorite spots:
- Analog Coffee/ B-Side Foods
- Analog Coffee rotates local roasteries offering delicious espresso and pour overs, as well as a selection of breakfast sandwiches and bowls.
- Oddfellows Cafe + Bar
- For a more sit-down breakfast or brunch, Oddfellows offers a trendy setting with seasonal dishes and drinks. The atmosphere accurately represents Capitol Hill’s warm, lively energy.
Once properly caffeinated and fed, a stroll through Volunteer Park is the perfect way to take in the natural beauty Capitol Hill has to offer. If you’re wanting to extend your time there, consider the Volunteer Park Conservatory. Additionally, the Asian Art Museum is located inside Volunteer Park, featuring historic and contemporary artwork from all across Asia. The conservatory and Art Museum are affordable options – both under $20. For those who indulge in viewing wildly ornate, historic homes, consider taking a stroll on 14th Ave E – just south of the park. Here you’ll find some of the first notable Seattle citizens original homes.

Next up: walking Broadway Ave to browse shops and into a cafe for a snack. Be sure to check out Elliot Bay Book Store – located just off of Broadway & Pine on 10th Ave.
If walking doesn’t sound like the right way to spend your afternoon, may we suggest the Frye Art Museum. Free to enter, the museum hosts rotating modern and contemporary exhibits, in addition to a permanent, more traditional collection.
By this hour, we might need a rest. With a selection of grocery stores and cafes, there are lots of options for a picnic to take to Cal Anderson Park. The park is home to special events, fountains, and plentiful grass area.
For dinner, find a wide array of restaurants and cuisines. Some of our favorites include:
- Spinasse: indulgent, fine dinning Italian perfect for a special occasion or a more stylish dinner
- Monsoon: a contemporary Vietnamese restaurant with cocktails & happy hour and some delicious signature dishes.
- Terra Plata: enjoy rooftop views and locally sourced new-American style dishes
- Manao Thai Street: a more casual, counter service vibe serving Thai street food
If you’re up for more, we are impressed. The night life in Capitol Hill is one of the most lively in Seattle. You’ll find most of the nighttime bars and clubs in between Pike and Pine, east of Broadway.
